Premium Domain Rental lets you use a great domain today for a simple monthly fee, without paying the full purchase price upfront. You get exclusive rights to build your brand, and you keep the option to buy it later at a price locked in from day one.
How it works
Pick a domain. Choose a domain in our marketplace that offers a rental option.
Start your rental. Make your first monthly payment and set up autopay. Your monthly fee and your purchase price are locked based on the domain’s price at that moment.
Point it where you want. After your first payment we give you DNS access so you can connect the domain to your site, store, or email — usually within 1–2 business days.
Build with confidence. While you’re renting, the domain is exclusively yours — it’s pulled from the marketplace and can’t be sold to anyone else.
Buy it whenever you’re ready. You can choose to purchase the domain at any time at your locked-in price. Buying is optional — it’s not automatic.
How much does it cost?
The monthly rental fee for each domain is shown on its listing, so you'll always see the price before you start. A minimum fee of $100/month applies. The fee includes Atom's platform fee and increases 5% each year on your rental anniversary. You are separately responsible for the domain's registration renewal fees that come due during the rental period.
Do my rental payments count toward buying the domain?
No. Rental payments are fees for exclusive use and access — think of them like premium rent. They don’t reduce the purchase price if you later decide to buy.
What price will I pay if I decide to buy?
Your purchase price is locked at the domain’s price on the day your rental starts and stays fixed for as long as your rental is active. Since premium domains tend to rise in value, locking the price early can be an advantage. When you buy, standard marketplace commission and checkout terms apply.
Who owns the domain while I'm renting?
The domain stays in an Atom-managed registrar account during your rental, whether it’s owned by Atom or a third-party seller. You get DNS access to run your site, but usage rights only — you can’t sell, transfer, or list the domain. Full ownership transfers only if you complete a purchase.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Payments are billed in advance via autopay. If a charge fails, you have 10 days to update your payment method.
If it’s still unpaid after 10 days, we may suspend the domain’s DNS and end the rental. The domain then goes back on the marketplace.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Email service@atom.com at least 48 hours before your next billing date. We’ll stop billing you, your usage rights end, and the domain is re-listed. Rental payments already made are non-refundable.
Using the domain responsibly
The domain can’t be used for anything unlawful or for spam, phishing, fraud, or deceptive practices, and it can’t infringe someone else’s trademark. Misuse can lead to DNS suspension and termination. If you receive a legal notice or dispute about the domain (such as a UDRP or URS claim), tell us within 2 business days. Domains are offered as-is, and Atom doesn’t provide legal or valuation advice — please do your own due diligence.
