Premium Domain Rental lets you turn an unsold domain into a recurring revenue stream. A buyer pays a monthly fee for exclusive use of your domain, you keep ownership and long-term upside, and you still earn your standard sale commission if they eventually buy.
How it works
Opt in. Enable the rental option on eligible Premium and Plus listings. It’s off by default — you choose which domains to offer.
Domain held by Atom. When a renter makes their first payment, the domain is held in an Atom-managed registrar account for the duration of the rental.
Renter uses, you earn. The renter gets DNS access to build their brand; you receive your share of each monthly payment.
Optional purchase. The renter can buy at any time at their locked-in price, and you earn your standard commission-based payout.
What you'll earn
Rental revenue is shared between the Seller and Atom on each monthly payment, applying the same commission structure in effect for the domain's current listing (Atom’s share covers servicing and platform fees). Payouts arrive monthly, within 3–5 business days of Atom verifying each payment.
How rental pricing is set
The monthly fee is 2% of the domain’s Buy-It-Now price for domains $5,000 and above, or a flat $100/month under $5,000. The renter’s purchase price is locked at the start of the rental and stays fixed, while the monthly rental fee rises 5% each year.
What if the renter buys?
It’s treated like any other marketplace sale — standard commission applies and you receive your payout accordingly. Rental payments are separate and don’t reduce the purchase price.
What if the renter stops paying?
If payments fail, the renter gets a 10-Day grace period. If it stays unpaid, Atom suspends the domain and ends the rental — the domain returns to your inventory and is re-listed. You can request it be transferred back to your account. You’re never owed payment for unpaid future months.
Who pays for renewals?
During a rental, renewal fees, including for .com, are paid by the renter, not by you
What you're agreeing to
You confirm you’re the rightful registrant with the legal right to rent and transfer the domain, that it’s active and in good standing, and that it isn’t subject to any lock, dispute, or pending UDRP/URS/court proceeding.
Please don’t list a domain you know to be subject to a trademark dispute; you indemnify Atom and the renter for losses from knowingly doing so.
If a dispute about the domain comes up, let Atom know within 2 business days. You can lead the defense, and Atom can step in to preserve the domain if needed.
Refunds: if Atom refunds a buyer for fraud or verification issues, you won’t receive the refunded portion. Please don’t deal with the renter outside Atom for the transaction.
